Taller gears have a mechanical advantage at the top of the gear, and depending on shift rpm etc. they are faster for certain ranges. No disagreement here. I'm disagreeing with ZCulture on the grounds of a drag-racing application. For a road course, well it would depend on the geometry of the course and the specific ratios, etc =).
